Our mission

The Bridge is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit street newspaper that is designed to help Memphians experiencing homelessness or extreme poverty get back on their feet.It was created in 2013 by a group of students attending Rhodes College who saw a need in the Memphis community for a program that would allow individuals experiencing poverty to have more autonomy. We aim to bridge the gap between homeless and sheltered by providing people experiencing homelessness in Memphis with tools to obtain a self-generated income, college students with publication and non-profit experience, and Memphians with increased community engagement and awareness of issues surrounding homelessness.

Before my work with The Bridge, I did not take the time to get to know people experiencing homelessness and their stories. Now, I am grateful to count many of our vendors as my friends. Getting to know them and their stories has truly changed my outlook on life.
